Since the beginning of 2005 Lenovo has been manufacturing the IBM ThinkPad laptop series, when they purchased from IBM, their personal computer division. In a joint venture agreement since Lenovo took over the manufacturing division of IBM ThinkPad laptop, they have maintained an agreement to share the responsibilities of support and marketing of the IBM ThinkPad laptop series. This has since seen a massive expansion in the popularity and sales of IBM ThinkPad laptops.

IBM & the NASA space program
Not many computer manufactures can lay claim to having had their computers sent into space as part of the NASA space program. This however occurred in 1993 when the ThinkPad 750, an earlier IBM Thinkpad laptop model, flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The ThinkPad 750 was not just sent into space to enjoy the ride. It had a specific task to perform tests to determine the effects of radiation on portable computer components. Since 1993 IBM ThinkPad laptops have been sent into space on numerous occasions to perform all manner of tasks, and they are currently being used on the International Space Station.
